Every AI SaaS idea I pursue has to satisfy these 3 filters.

Here's my process for picking which projects to spend real time on:

1) The Need — Does this solve an actual problem people are willing to pay for?

2) My Skills — Can I build and maintain this with what I know (or can learn quickly)?

3) Enjoyment — Is this a project I'd be happy to work on for a long time?

If I can't answer "yes" to all three, I skip the idea or adjust it until it fits. This has saved me months on projects that only look good on the surface.

Refine and Post (5 min)

The 3 things I consider before building AI SaaS ideas.

No, not TAM (Total Addressable Market)…

Here's my process for picking which projects are worth pursuing:

1) The Need — Does this solve an actual problem people are willing to pay for? Are there existing solutions?

If there isn't a clear business problem or custom avatar, then it's an immediate no.

Existing solutions give hints of validation (i.e. people are already paying to solve this problem) and how to position and price something new.

2) My Skills — Can I build this with what I know (or can learn quickly)?

Even if there is a major need for something, if I lack the skills to build it, then my probability of success goes down (and so does my expected returns).

Things that overlap with my personal experience, on the other hand, have a higher probability of working becuase I have insight into the problem or potential solution.

3) Enjoyment — Is this a project I'd be happy to work on for a long time? Would I enjoy helping this customer avatar?

This is one that most people ignore, but might be the most important.

If people love your app and it takes off (best-case scenario), this is a recipe for burnout.

Building something you love makes it easier to build something other people will love too :)

If I can't answer "yes" to all three, I skip the idea or adjust it until it fits.

Now I'm turning that tool into an app, so no founder has to waste hours every week writing LinkedIn posts.
